Transformation Tuesday: There Is No Try

Hello friends!

I have some great posts in the works, but I’ve had a {delightfully} busy week and I’ve accepted that it’s not going to happen today — something’s gotta give!  So here are some quick thoughts about changing your mindset, inspired by the best day of the year (National Star Wars day, of course).

Do or do not, there is no try

Like most kids born in the 70s {even ones like me who snuck in during the last few weeks of 1979}, I love Star Wars.  I’ve been obsessed since childhood.  I can’t even count the number of times that I’ve seen the original three movies {let’s not talk about Episodes I-III, mmmmkay?}. The Empire Strikes Back has always favorite, in no small part because I loooove Yoda.  Time for the full geek confession: I had a Yoda poster in my room in high school and a mini Yoda in my pocket at all times.  {Luckily for me, I met + married this guy; in place of a star atop our xmas tree, we have Chewy.  Yes I’m serious.}

But it wasn’t until yesterday when I posted this picture on Instagram that I truly appreciated the magnitude {and the simplicity} of Yoda’s wisdom: “Try not.  Do… or do not. There is no try.”  I recently read The Power of Habit for a book club {highly recommend!!!}, and it talks about belief as the key to changing behavior.  You have to believe that change is possible, and if you truly believe, you will be successful. Whether that belief is rooted in religion, spirituality, the Force, or even just believing in yourself, it’s paramount.  After all, if you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect other people to believe in you?

Entrepreneurship is challenging, especially taking the leap into a brand new field {or, in my case, two}.  But when the buck stops with you, there’s no time for second guessing, wondering whether you will be successful, or worrying about what people think.  You can’t afford to give it a try – you’ve got to do it.  Jump into that freezing deep water with both feet and trust that you will be able to swim to the surface.  Is it easy?  F*ck no.  It’s hard as hell.  But if you do, if you keep at it, it will pay off.

Now excuse me while I go order a new Yoda poster for my grown up apartment.

xoxo,
Jenn
