Calling All Magpies

Hello, friends!

It’s been a minute (or two) since I last posted; the end of 2015 flew by.  I’m absolutely loving my job with W by Worth, and it’s helped me meet so many amazing women!  Here’s a very quick recap of the last four months: two really fun pop-up trunk shows in our home (still can’t believe I get paid to play dress up), a booth at Fashion Week San Diego, shopping events at beautiful homes in S.D. and L.A., a wonderful week in Wisconsin with my family for Thanksgiving, sang in six concerts over eight days in December, joined an incredible women’s network called Lipstick Sister, and actually spent the holidays on vacation (for the first time since law school).  It was the perfect ending to 2015 and left me refreshed and ready to hit the ground running this week.  I am beyond excited for 2016!

To top it off, I received* this truly stunning iPhone case from AT&T to review and share with you.  I’ve been using it for the past month, and it is easily the nicest case I’ve ever had.  If you’re a magpie like me, you need this case in your life.  The sparkle factor is out of this world!  Here’s a picture Nathan snapped when we were out chasing rainbows.

Case-Mate knocked this one out of the park, and here’s their official (and accurate) description: “Admire the shimmering splendor of genuine crystal accented with premium leather. Each crystal is thoughtfully selected and carefully placed to create a dynamic shimmer, adding further distinction and a unique, elegant look.”

I can’t tell you the number of women who have commented on this case over the last month.  It is absolutely gorgeous in real life – “shimmering splendor” is not an exaggeration!  I will try to put a video of the sparkle in all its glory on my Instagram account soon.  And looks aside, the case works great as well.  I love how easy the buttons are to use, which is an issue with lots of cases I’ve had, and the mix of matte and shiny metal accents gives it a super luxe finish.  I also like how the case extends away from the back of my phone to give extra scratch protection to the camera.  My one complaint is that the crystals make the case a bit heavy, but the sheer brilliance easily makes up for it.  And I figure I’m getting a little extra exercise when I lift my iPhone. 😉

You can order the case here, and I highly recommend it!  After all, diamonds are a girl’s best friend. (Crazy cat lady shirt not included.)  I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season and that 2016 brings you much joy.  And stay tuned for future posts!  My very simple New Year’s resolution is to be happy, and blogging always makes me smile.  Thank you so much for stopping by!

* The case was graciously provided for review but the opinions  are all my own.

Exciting News!!

Hello, friends!

As you know, I left the full time practice of law in February to embark on my journey as entrepreneur. It has been an amazing six months, and I have learned so much both personally and professionally. Entrepreneurship is challenging but incredibly rewarding, and I love the flexibility that comes with being your own CEO!

IMG_3099Nathan and I worked together to re-vamp Nathan French Photography, and our business is thriving. In addition to our online print shop, we have expanded our portraiture business, including an amazing wedding at the Hotel Del Coronado.  And NASA selected Nathan’s “Inverted World” as a grand prize winner in their “Signs of Spring” photo competition! I’ve also loved my role as Executive Consultant with Rodan + Fields, the new skincare company from the Proactiv doctors. My customers are experiencing unbelievable results, and my business continues to grow every month.

I have loved working with Nathan, and I look forward to continuing our partnership. But now that our business is up and running, the timing was right for me to expand my own horizons. It will come as no surprise to you that I have loved fashion since childhood: my Barbie dolls had a bigger closet than I did, and I loved playing dress up every chance I could get. I’ve written this blog chronicling my personal style since 2011, and I’ve connected with an amazing network of fashionistas through Instagram. In May, I was honored to be included in a Wall Street Journal article about one of my favorite brands, J.Crew. The brand has been struggling, and I told the author that I felt a bit lost as to where to shop. Little did I know that my quest for retail therapy would lead me into an amazing new career.

IMG_3634I am delighted to share the news of my new position as the Director of Business Development at W by Worth! It is a New York based fashion company that thrives on empowering women to be their own CEOs of their own business, building careers in the world of fashion with the backing of a company devoted to supporting their success. My role will be to develop these teams of women and to create brand awareness in the greater San Diego and Orange County areas. I am looking forward to many new challenges and opportunities, starting with a visit to our New York City Showroom in the iconic Crown Building at 730 Fifth Avenue!

In addition to my role on the Sales Management Team, I will also fulfill a lifelong dream as a personal Stylist! It brings me more joy than I can say to help women allow their personality to shine through clothing. So many women shared their frustrations with J.Crew and other clothing lines that have sacrificed quality and classic style for mass productions of the latest trends. W by Worth fills that hole in the professional woman’s wardrobe, and I cannot wait to share these amazing clothes through one-on-one styling appointments. Stay tuned for more information on my upcoming show in September!

Screen Shot 2015-08-02 at 1.50.34 PMFounded in 1991, WORTH has created a luxurious brand of exclusively designed, modern, sophisticated clothing made with the utmost attention to fabrication and detailing. Couture quality and exceptional craftsmanship are the hallmark of our collections. I look forward to sharing more about this with you! Please take a minute to preview some of my favorite fall looks on our website.

You can view our entire Fall Look Book here, and I will be posting more photographs on my blog and Instagram soon!

Thank you so very much for your support this year. It means more to me than I can say, and Nathan and I are grateful to have each of you in our lives. I feel fortunate beyond measure to be able to follow my dreams, and the ability to empower other women to do the same has truly changed my life.

Why Rodan + Fields

Hello, friends!

I’ve had a few people ask me recently why I decided to partner with Rodan + Fields, so I thought I’d do a quick post about what sets this company apart from others in the direct sales space.

1.    4th Largest Among Top U.S. Premium Skincare Brands

Based on 2013 market share statistics published by Euromonitor International, Rodan + Fields is the 4th largest {and fastest growing} premium skincare brand in the U.S., following Clinique, Estée Lauder, and Lancôme.  While there are other direct sales companies offering skincare products, they simply can’t compete with Rodan + Fields in terms of market share and growth.

Rodan + Fields’s prices are similar to their premium competitors, although we offer 10% {plus} discounts off the listed retail prices.  And the success and growth of this company, formed in 2002, is remarkable considering its top three competitors have been around since 1968, 1946, and 1935, respectively.

2.     We Only Sell Skincare

Rodan + Fields is a skincare company formed by two practicing dermatologists.  In the words of Dr. Katie Rodan: “Before Rodan + Fields was a company, it was two doctors.  First and foremost, we are physicians committed to healing our patients’ skin.  We stand behind our products, but most importantly, we stand behind you.”

Aside from Vitamin D supplements, which go hand in hand with our Skin Cancer Foundation recommended body and face sunscreens, we do not offer any other products.   And, as discussed below, we believe your skincare should be as unique as your skin.  This again sets us apart from other direct sales companies who may offer one skincare line in addition to a host of other products.

3.     Guaranteed + Clinically Proven Results

Rodan + Fields’s product philosophy is simple: “To see real changes in your skin, you must use real ingredients.”  Our core products come in four {customizable} regimens to address everyday skin issues.  This regimen-based approach to treating common skin concerns blends over-the-counter and active cosmetic ingredients in the right combination with optimized, elegant formulations to deliver clinically proven results, without a visit to the dermatologist’s office.

Each regimen undergoes third party clinical tests to ensure safety and efficacy.  And the doctors are so confident in their products that each one—including the business kits sold to new consultant—comes with a 60 day money back guarantee.  Here are my personal results after only 60 days.  My skin has only gotten better, and the extra income I’ve earned working minimal hours has been invaluable during my transition from full-time attorney to entrepreneur.

*        *        *        *        *

I hope this was helpful!  If you are curious about either the products or how to share a part of this thriving business, please contact me.  All seriousness aside, I have been having so much fun!  And that, my friends, is priceless.  😉

As always, thanks for stopping by!

P.S. – Please note that this post is not meant to knock other direct sales or network marketing companies in any way.  I have friends selling supplements, body wraps, nail polish, makeup, essential oils, cleaning products, etc.  And they’ve done some amazing things: one of my friends just received a free cruise to Jamaica for hitting her sales goal!  {Jealous!!}  I happily support any woman {or man} who has the courage to break from the corporate world and go their own way.  As Madeleine Albright so eloquently stated: “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.”

Beach Cruisin

Hello friends,

Happy Friday!  The weather has been absolutely gorgeous this week, and I can’t wait for the official start of summer mañana.  And nothing makes me happier when the weather gets warmer than having a flexible schedule.  This week, Nathan and I went to La Jolla to do some scouting for two upcoming photoshoots.  It was overcast during the early afternoon, which made for some great lighting.  I played model for a bit so we could test the location and effects of June Gloom, and so I thought I’d share some of the pictures with you.  It was a J.Crew Everything kinda day, as usual.

The water was preeeetty cold at first, but once I got my feet wet I couldn’t stay away.  The waves were crystal clear, and it turned into a stunningly beautiful day.  Oh, and we did some model casting too.  😉

Five Years a French

Hello friends!

Five years ago today I married my best friend.  In Las Vegas.  By Elvis.  It was unbelievably fun, surprisingly romantic, and I wouldn’t change a thing!  I posted details of my outfit here, but thought I would share our hilarious wedding video with you all today.  Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.  😉

Eat All the Things (vol. 1)

Hello, friends!

As I mentioned before, I’m not sure exactly where this blog is headed now that I’m on the entrepreneur/Girl Boss path that no longer requires Lady Lawyer suits or working in an office.  (I’m also not sure where my wardrobe/style are headed but that’s a story for another day.)  I thought I’d mix things up with a review of one of my new favorite local restaurants, Farmer’s Bottega.

Farmer’s Bottega is located in the historic Mission Hills neighborhood (just west of our casa in Hillcrest).  According to Wikipedia, Mission Hills “is located on hills just south of the San Diego River valley and north of downtown San Diego, overlooking Old Town, Downtown San Diego, and San Diego Bay.”  What this means for non-San Diegans is that the hillside views are  The neighborhood is filled with local businesses and boutique shops (like this favorite), delicious restaurants, Bungalow and Craftsman homes that will make any porch lover swoon, and a lot of charm.  It has a small-town feel in the heart of San Diego; we love taking afternoon walks and are frequently greeted by friendly residents.  I would love to own a home in this neighborhood someday!

Back to the topic at hand: Farmer’s Bottega.  I am automatically a fan of any restaurant that serves breakfast in the afternoons during the week, so I knew we would be fast friends.  Put simply, my need for hollandaise simply can’t be satisfied on the weekends alone. This charming new eatery offers a plethora of delicious Eggs Benedict variations that more than satisfy my buttery cravings.

On my first visit, Nathan and I popped in for a late lunch and sat on the back patio, which is lined with fragrant flower boxes filled with herbs and tomatoes.  The service and atmosphere were perfect.  I opted for prosecco and was delighted to receive my own mini bottle of (delicious) bubbles.  A local brew for the mister, of course.

Locals will recognize some menu items from the sister restaurants, Fig Tree Cafe. Since the Hillcrest location is one of my favorites, I knew we were in for good eats.  And Farmer’s Bottega did not disappoint!  We both tried Eggs Benedict dishes on English muffins: blue crab for me, traditional for Nathan.

The freshly made crab cakes and cilantro hollandaise were a perfect match, and I could eat a bucket of house potatoes.  You have the option of an English muffin, focaccia, or one of each.  I’m sure the focaccia is divine as well but we are purists, at least when it comes to the bread.  Adding cilantro to the hollandaise, however, is genius.  I can’t wait to try the Short Rib Benedict with chipotle hollandaise; I’ve tried the version at Fig Tree and am drooling just thinking about it.  And the eggs were perfectly poached and farm fresh–nothing kills a breakfast buzz more than over cooked eggs.

I’ve also been to this delightful restaurant for dinner, and am happy to report that I encountered similar levels of deliciousness.  My dear friend had the braised short ribs with grilled polenta and tobacco onions (aka, fancy onion rings).  I wish that I had taken a picture, because it was not only beautiful but so. stinkin. good.  The short ribs were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked; unsurprisingly, our waiter said it’s the most popular dish on the menu.  I opted for the oxtail ravioli, which came with cherry tomatoes, caramelized onion, and herbed goat cheese.  The flavors were spot on, and it’s definitely big enough to share.  Sadly, the pictures of these two entrees did not work out.  But we also tried the bruschetta with bleu cheese, parma prosciutto, fresh figs, and aged balsamic, and here it is!

Bruschetta Farmer's Bottega Mission Hills San Diego

As you may have guessed from the picture, bruschetta = good eats.  The prosciutto was tender and flavorful, and the bleu cheese was a welcome change from the standard bruschetta fare of goat cheese or burrata.  Not that I have anything against them, or any other cheese for that matter.  (Wisconsin girl for life.)   But the tangy, pungent cheese pared perfectly with the sweet figs and aged balsamic.  Just writing this makes me hungry; I can’t wait to go back!

At bottom, Farmer’s Bottega is not to be missed.  Whether you’re a native or a tourist, I highly recommend visiting Mission Hills for an afternoon stroll and a delightful meal at Farmer’s Bottega.

Sunny San Diego

Hello friends!

I hope you are all enjoying your fall respective weather!  I love layers, and my office is cold, so the recent crisp days in Southern California have been right up my alley.  🙂

We took a quick trip to San Diego yesterday for a good friend’s birthday party and saw a bunch of friends we haven’t seen in ages.  So much fun!  And I also reunited with my fantastic hairdresser.  She’s amazing, and I love that she does both cut and color.  After lunch at one of our favorite taco shops, we headed over to the Hotel Del Coronado to take a few pictures.  It was a lovely day, and so nice to be back on the old stomping grounds.

Hope you all had a great weekend, and as always, thank you so much for reading!
